Amritsar/ Chandigarh, June 25
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested on Wednesday morning by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau following simultaneous raids at 25 locations linked to him across the state. Officials said the coordinated operation was carried out at properties in Amritsar, Chandigarh, and other undisclosed locations. He was arrested from his residence in the Green Avenue area of Amritsar during a raid led by nearly 30 officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Lakhbir Singh. The arrest is reportedly linked to a case involving disproportionate assets.
Majithia, a former cabinet minister and one of SAD’s most prominent leaders, was taken to Mohali shortly after his arrest. He is also the brother-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal. The state government and the Vigilance Bureau have not yet issued an official statement detailing the charges or reasons for the arrest. Majithia has alleged political vendetta, claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party-led government has implicated him in a false case.
