New Delhi, October 1
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to travel to India on December 5 and December 6 for the annual India-Russia summit, at a time when the two countries are marking the 15th anniversary of what they call a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership”. The Kremlin leader’s visit, confirmed last week by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, comes against the backdrop of the continuing war in Ukraine and western attempts to isolate Moscow on the global stage. Putin last spoke to Narendra Modi about this plan in August through a video call, in which the Prime Minister described their exchange as a “very good and detailed conversation”. Modi had thanked Putin for briefing him on the latest developments in Ukraine and stressed that both sides had reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation.
