The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday carried out a raid at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Raman Arora in Jalandhar, following serious allegations of corruption tied to the city’s municipal corporation. Arora, 54, represents the Jalandhar Central constituency. He was present at his home when officials from the bureau arrived early in the day to conduct the search. The raid continued for several hours, with officers examining documents and electronic records.
The MLA is accused of misusing his position to extract bribes for routine municipal work and allegedly threatening residents to extort money. According to officials, Arora is suspected of orchestrating false notices through municipal officers and then demanding payment from individuals to have them cancelled.
The AAP government in Punjab has so far not issued a formal response. However, sources in the administration say the Chief Minister has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, irrespective of party affiliation.
