Chandigarh, June 16
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday sought a detailed custody report from the Chandigarh administration after concerns were raised over the alleged auction of heritage furniture from the MLA hostel in the United States. A high-level meeting was held with officials of the Union Territory administration to determine who was responsible for the custody of the items. Authorities noted that heritage furniture is maintained across records held by Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh administrations, with inventories managed by the UT authorities.
Taking serious note of the matter, Sandhwan said strict action would be taken against those found responsible and accountability would be fixed if any wrongdoing was established. He stressed that any intentional negligence leading to damage or loss of Chandigarh’s unique architectural and historical heritage would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The officials are now examining records to trace the movement and custody of the disputed items as part of the ongoing inquiry.
