Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday said that the police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Kanwar Digvijay Singh, also known as Rana Balachauria, following a brief exchange of fire in Mohali. According to the DGP, a team of SAS Nagar (Mohali) Police apprehended Harpinder Singh, alias Middu, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village in Tarn Taran district. The arrest was made during an operation in which the suspect opened fire while attempting to flee. Police said the accused, who was injured in the exchange, was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Two police personnel were also injured during the chase and are undergoing medical treatment. Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested man is linked to several serious criminal cases and has a history of involvement in violent offences, the DGP added. Police said further investigation into the murder and the suspect’s wider criminal network is continuing.
