Punjab Police have dismantled a drug and hawala network, arresting five individuals and recovering narcotics, illegal weapons, and cash. The operation turned violent when suspects opened fire on officers, leading to a swift response. Two accused sustained leg injuries and were given medical care, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. The Tarn Taran Police later apprehended Iqbal Singh, a key intermediary in a Dubai-linked money laundering network. He confessed to transferring ₹50 crore in the past three months to finance cross-border drug smuggling, DGP Yadav said in his post on X previously known as Twitter.
The Police seized 7kg of opium, three pistols (30-bore) with six magazines, ₹23.10 lakh in drug money, and a currency counting machine. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and BNS.
