Tarn Taran, September 3
Punjab Cabinet Ministers Laljit Singh Bhullar and Harbhajan Singh along with senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, visited flood-prone villages in Tarn Taran on Wednesday to assess vulnerable points along the River Beas. The leaders inspected embankments in Marah and Keeryan villages and interacted with residents to understand the challenges posed by rising waters. Working with the local administration and villagers, they helped reinforce weak stretches of the riverbank with gunny bags and crates.
They said the Punjab government was committed to protecting lives, farmland and homes in flood-affected areas. Immediate relief measures were being taken, while long-term strategies were being devised to minimise future risks. The ministers praised the cooperation of villagers and officials in fortifying embankments and assured that the government would continue to monitor the situation closely.
Bhullar added that the state’s administrative machinery had been active since the onset of the floods, and he highlighted Sisodia’s presence as a show of solidarity with the people of Punjab during the crisis.
