Chandigarh, August 3
Former Food and Civil Supplies Minister and state Congress working president, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was remanded to five days of police custody by a Jalandhar court on Friday. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in connection with a tender scam-related money laundering case. The ED had requested a seven-day remand for Ashu, but the court granted custody only until August 7.
The ED has claimed that Ashu was not cooperating with officials regarding inquiries into the alleged money trail, which reportedly involved his relatives. The money-laundering investigation stems from a Vigilance Bureau FIR related to a scam involving the allocation of tenders for foodgrain transportation using fake vehicle registration numbers.
