Chandigarh, November 23
Congress’ Kuldeep Singh Dhillon secured victory in the Barnala assembly bypoll, defeating AAP’s Harinder Singh Dhaliwal by a margin of 2,157 votes. However, AAP is leading in the other three assembly segments—Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Gidderbaha—out of the four seats contested in the November 20 bypolls.
As vote counting entered its final stage on Saturday, AAP candidates maintained leads in the three segments. The surge in AAP’s performance in Dera Baba Nanak and Gidderbaha is attributed to support from Akali workers backing AAP candidates.
