Patiala, June 8
A large-scale protest and shutdown were observed in Patiala on Monday after members of the Jingar community called for a bandh over the alleged murder of a woman named Dimple at the Mohali office of a US-based company on June 4.
Although police have registered a case against the accused in connection with the murder, protesters claimed that no action has been taken against the company where the incident occurred. Demonstrations were reported across the city, with a major protest underway at Topkhana Mor in Patiala.
Family members of the victim alleged that the company was aware of the accused employee’s alleged inappropriate behaviour towards other women but failed to take disciplinary action.
“The company knew about the boy’s misconduct with other girls, yet no action was taken against him. Dimple had to pay with her life because of this negligence,” the family alleged during the protest.
They further claimed that the company neither acted against the accused employee nor ensured adequate workplace security.
The family has demanded that the company be blacklisted in India to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, markets in several parts of Patiala remained shut in response to the bandh call, while protesters continued raising slogans demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the company.
