A Sadbhavna March was held in Shimla on Friday under the banner of ‘Shimla for Peace and Harmony’, with participation from local residents, leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress. The march, which followed a series of protests demanding the demolition of an illegal structure and the verification of outsiders in the area, aimed to promote goodwill and encourage peace among the people of Shimla.
Notable participants included former mayor Sanjay Chauhan, CITU state president Vijendra Mehra, AAP leader Rakesh Ajta, as well as Congress leaders, retired professionals, judges, and educators. The event started at the Shimla DC office and sought to deliver a message of unity and harmony to the community, according to media reports.
However, the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, the group leading the initial protests, criticized the march. The organization questioned the intentions behind the march, asking why there was no outcry of goodwill when incidents like the murder of Prachi Rana in Una or the stabbing of a Dalit student in Udaipur occurred. The Samiti accused the organizers of double standards.
