Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that Sabarmati Ashram remains a powerful symbol of the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, which continue to inspire people across the world. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Modi said he had visited the ashram in Ahmedabad earlier in the day along with Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany. Describing the visit as meaningful, the Prime Minister said Gandhi’s philosophy and way of life had given strength to “countless people” globally, underlining the enduring relevance of non-violence, truth and moral courage.
