Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed support for the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing its commitment to teaching young children in their mother tongue. In response to a post by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on X (formerly Twitter), Modi reinforced how NEP 2020 aligns with the vision of using innovative resources and initiatives to enhance learning through regional languages.
Modi shared Pradhan’s message, which highlighted the role of teaching in one’s mother tongue to foster deep learning, creativity, and preserve cultural roots. Pradhan, in his own post, stressed the importance of the mother tongue in developing creative and critical thinking, noting that NEP 2020 acts as a catalyst to reclaim India’s linguistic pride.
The statements coincide with the celebration of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati’s Jayanti and the ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav,’ reinforcing the ongoing push to preserve India’s linguistic diversity and use it as a foundation for educational excellence.
