McLeod Ganj, May 27

Penpa Tsering on Wednesday took oath for a second term as the president of the Tibetan government in exile, pledging to make the resolution of the Tibet-China issue his top priority. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Tsuglagkhang Buddhist Monastery in McLeod Ganj in the presence of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

Addressing the gathering after the ceremony, Penpa Tsering said his administration would continue efforts to resolve the long-standing Tibet-China dispute with support from the international community. He also stressed the need to ensure social security for Tibetans living across different Indian states and abroad.

He said the exile administration would strengthen governance through modern technology and expand its e-governance initiatives in the coming years. According to him, Tibetans are currently residing in 10 Indian states and two Union Territories, making welfare and administrative support a key focus area.

Reacting to China’s claims regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, Penpa Tsering said reincarnation is a deeply religious and spiritual matter linked to Tibetan faith and traditions. He stated that China should not interfere in the issue, especially when it does not believe in religion itself.

He further said the Tibetan tradition of reincarnation is unique and distinct from practices followed in other Buddhist nations, adding that decisions regarding the spiritual leader’s reincarnation should remain solely with the Tibetan people.
