Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday expressed concern over the ongoing disruptions in Parliament, emphasizing the negative impact on the country’s democracy. Dhankhar stated that while the world observes India’s parliamentary proceedings, the disruptions undermine public trust and fail the citizens. “We must recognize our fundamental duty to serve with diligence, which is currently being neglected,” Dhankhar said. He criticized the absence of reasoned dialogue, calling the situation a mockery of public expectations.
“Where reasoned dialogue should prevail, we witness only chaos. I urge every parliamentarian, regardless of party, to examine their conscience. Citizens, who constitute one-sixth of humanity, deserve better than this spectacle,” he added.
Dhankhar further urged lawmakers to introspect, calling for conduct that reflects the oath of office. He also appealed to citizens to hold their elected representatives accountable.
