Chandigarh, November 18
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Saturday refuted allegations from Punjab’s Opposition parties regarding the central government allotting land in Chandigarh to Haryana for a new Assembly building. “No land has been allotted to Haryana,” Kataria clarified, talking to media on the sidelines of an event at a private university. He acknowledged Haryana’s longstanding demand for the land but emphasized that no decision had been taken.
“A proposal by the Haryana government has been pending for a long time. I can’t comment further, as no decision has been made on the issue,” he said. The statement comes amid protests by Punjab’s political parties, including the BJP, which accused the Centre of favoring Haryana in land allocation.
