New Delhi, January 19
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to elect its working president, Nitin Nabin, as the party’s next national president on Monday.
Nabin is due to file his nomination for the party’s 12th national president at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi between 2 pm and 4pm local time. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from 4 pm to 5pm, followed by a one-hour window for withdrawal of nominations. If only one valid nomination remains, the election officer will declare Nabin elected unopposed. In the event of multiple valid nominations, voting will be held on the January 20.
Senior party leaders, including most BJP chief ministers, state unit presidents and top leaders, are expected to attend the proceedings. The BJP issued the formal notification for the national president’s election on January 16. Nabin was appointed the party’s executive president on December 14. If confirmed, he would become the youngest national president in the party’s history.
