Shimla, August 12
The Himachal Pradesh assembly will start its monsoon session on 18 August, with Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania calling for heightened security and cooperation from legislators. Pathania chaired a review meeting with senior police officials on Tuesday, issuing “strict instructions” to ensure the safety of members and the smooth conduct of proceedings. The session will be preceded by an all-party meeting at noon on the opening day, following a media briefing scheduled for 14 August.
Lawmakers have so far submitted 635 starred and 127 unstarred questions for the session, which forms part of the Speaker’s push to hold 35 sittings in a year – a target he said should set an example for other state legislatures, Pathania said while talking to media. “We must work together to ensure the assembly remains a platform for constructive debate and effective governance,” Pathania said, urging members to help maintain decorum in the house.
