Jammu, September 2
Two women pilgrims lost their lives, and another was seriously injured when a landslide struck the Himkoti track leading to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Trikuta Hills near Katra, Reasi district, on Monday. The women, from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, were hit by the landslide near Panchi, approximately 3 km from Bhawan. The landslide caused the collapse of an overhead iron structure, trapping the victims. The injured woman was quickly evacuated to a hospital for treatment. After the incident, the new Himkoti track was temporarily closed, and helicopter services were suspended due to ongoing heavy rainfall in Katra. Deputy Commissioner of Reasi district, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, confirmed the two fatalities based on a preliminary report and stated that a young girl had been gravely injured.
