In a significant breakthrough, Punjab’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Tarn Taran Police, has arrested the main accused in the February 2024 State Bank of India (SBI) dacoity case in Chabhal. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrest on social media, identifying the accused as Shehzad Singh, also known as Shaadi. Shehzad had been on the run since the bank heist and declared a proclaimed offender by a local court.
“One .32 calibre pistol and three live cartridges have been recovered from the accused,” DGP Yadav said in his statement. He added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network involved in the crime.
The bank robbery on 29 February 2024 had raised serious concerns about organized criminal activity in the border district of Tarn Taran. “@PunjabPoliceInd reiterates its firm resolve to crack down on hardened criminals and ensure justice through swift, coordinated action,” Yadav added.
