The Supreme Court on Monday permitted YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, to restart his podcast, The Ranveer Show, on the condition that the content adheres to general standards of morality and decency. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh issued the order after Allahbadia filed a petition challenging multiple criminal cases against him. The cases were related to controversial remarks made during an episode of India’s Got Latent, the news outlet Bar and Bench reported.
The court emphasized that the podcast must not contain vulgar content. “Subject to the petitioner furnishing an undertaking that his podcast shows will maintain the desired standards of morality and decency so that viewers of any age group can watch, the petitioner is permitted to resume The Ranveer Show,” the order stated, according to the news outlet.
The bench also suggested that the case could broaden to examine whether regulatory measures are needed to prevent the broadcast of obscene speech. The court urged Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to propose measures that balance free speech with constitutional limits under Article 19(4), the Bar and Bench highlighted.
The controversial episode of India’s Got Latent at the center of the legal dispute was recorded on November 14, 2024, at Khar Habitat but aired more recently.
