Home Minister Amit Shah called Devendra Fadnavis to congratulate him as the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance looks set to secure a landslide victory in Maharashtra’s assembly elections on Saturday. Fadnavis, is emerging as a key contender for the chief minister’s position.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, leader of Shiv Sena, also thanked the voters for their support, describing the win as a “landslide victory.” He had previously predicted a strong performance by the alliance. By 12:50 pm, Mahayuti was leading in 220 of the 288 assembly seats, surpassing the majority threshold. Vote counting for the November 20 elections began at 8 a.m., with Maharashtra reporting a 66% voter turnout.
Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the JMM-led INDIA bloc was ahead in 49 of 81 assembly seats, while the BJP-led NDA led in 30, according to initial trends.
