New Delhi, March 31
Indian tennis legend Leander Paes officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
Paes joined the party in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Union minister Kiren Rijiju. The announcement comes days after the tennis star met BJP chief Nitin Nabin in Kolkata, sparking widespread speculation about his political move.
Previously, Paes had joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021 and campaigned for the party during the Goa Assembly elections in 2022, though he did not contest any polls. His shift to the BJP marks a significant development ahead of the West Bengal elections.
