Chandigarh, January 22
The death toll from a bus accident in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district rose to 11 on Wednesday morning after one of the injured victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced financial assistance for the victims. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed in a post on X that Modi had extended his sympathies, offering Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of each deceased, and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the accident. The PMO’s message stated: “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.”
