Actor and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut announced on Monday that her upcoming film Emergency, in which she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, will hit theaters on January 17, 2025. The political drama, which Ranaut also directed, explores the Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977, a contentious chapter in the nation’s history.
Taking to her official X account, previously known as Twitter, Ranaut wrote: “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas on 17.01.2025!”
The film has generated significant anticipation due to its focus on one of India’s most politically charged eras. Ranaut, known for her outspoken political views, has described the project as a “passion-driven exploration” of the events and personalities that shaped modern Indian politics.
