New Delhi, January 6
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stepped down as leader of the Liberal Party, declaring he is not the best choice to lead the party into the next elections. The announcement was made during a press conference where Trudeau acknowledged the growing challenges faced by his leadership. He will also resign as Peime Minister as soon as Liberal party elect new leader.
Media reports had earlier suggested that Trudeau had little choice but to resign amid mounting internal dissent within the Liberal Party and a sharp decline in public support. Recent polls indicate the opposition Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, are well-positioned to unseat the Liberals in the upcoming elections.
Trudeau’s decision marks the end of his nearly decade-long tenure as Liberal leader, during which he navigated key challenges but also faced criticism over governance and policy decisions.
