New Delhi, June 13
India has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, particularly amid unconfirmed reports of attacks on nuclear facilities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday called for calm and urged both sides to avoid actions that could further inflame the situation. “We are closely monitoring developments, including reports related to nuclear sites,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing. “India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues.”
India has historically maintained cordial ties with both Iran and Israel, balancing strategic and economic interests in a region prone to geopolitical volatility. New Delhi reiterated its willingness to play a constructive role should it be called upon to mediate or assist in easing hostilities.
“Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe, and follow local security advisories,” Jaiswal added.
