Chandigarh, March 7
A Jaguar aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in the Morni Hills of Panchkula district, Haryana, on Friday afternoon, during a routine training sortie. The aircraft, which had taken off from the Ambala air base, encountered a system malfunction, forcing the pilot to eject safely.
The IAF confirmed the incident in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.” The pilot, demonstrating exceptional skill, managed to steer the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting, preventing any casualties on the ground.
The Jaguar, a British-French supersonic jet attack aircraft, has been a critical asset for the IAF since the late 1970s. Known for its deep penetration strike and ground attack capabilities, the aircraft has seen extensive service in various operations.
