Shimla, June 18
The Himachal Pradesh Teachers’ Federation has urged the Central Government to exempt all teachers appointed before 2010 from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement, warning that a recent Supreme Court ruling has created uncertainty over the future of thousands of educators.
Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Federation President Vinod Kumar Sood said the Supreme Court’s May 29, 2026 judgment has put the jobs of lakhs of teachers across the country at risk. He stated that more than 10,000 teachers in Himachal Pradesh could also be affected.
Sood argued that teachers recruited before August 23, 2010, were appointed under the rules and qualification criteria that were in effect at the time. He said imposing TET requirements retrospectively on these appointments would be unfair and could adversely affect their service careers.
The federation has appealed to Parliament to intervene through appropriate legislation or a special provision to safeguard the service, seniority, promotions, and other benefits of pre-2010 appointees. It also demanded that the Centre issue clear guidelines to all states and Union Territories to remove uncertainty among teachers.
The organization announced that memorandums highlighting these demands will be submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Education Ministry through district administrations across the country.
