Shimla, May 21
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has reserved its judgment in the high-profile Vimal Negi case for May 23. After hearing the argument from all the sides, Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, reserved the order. The case has been under close public scrutiny following conflicting status reports submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the state’s Director General of Police (DGP). The contradictions between the two reports have raised serious questions over the credibility of the investigation. The High Court has taken note of these inconsistencies and decided to reserve its order.
Senior advocate R.K. Bawa, representing Negi’s wife, told reporters that the family suspects tampering with evidence and has therefore demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. “There are discrepancies in the police reports. The family believes the facts have been manipulated and hence, they are seeking a fair investigation by the CBI,” Bawa said. The court is expected to address whether the investigation should be handed over to the CBI, as demanded by the family, or continue under the existing setup.
