Panchkula, June 1
The Haryana State Women’s Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of a case involving allegations of sexual abuse of a minor girl against Dr. Shailendra Kumar, who was serving as a consultant at LNJP Hospital in Kurukshetra after his retirement.
The Commission has directed the Health Department to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) and has emphasized that all necessary measures must be taken to ensure the victim’s safety, protection, counseling, and rehabilitation in accordance with legal provisions.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shailendra Kumar’s services have already been terminated. The doctor has been accused of sexually abusing a minor girl, and Kurukshetra police have registered a case against him under Sections 10 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father.
Haryana State Women’s Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia said a thorough inquiry should also determine who approved the doctor’s appointment after retirement. She further stated that action should be taken against those responsible if a person facing serious allegations was allowed to continue serving in such a sensitive position.
