Chandigarh, June 22

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday announced that yoga will be included in the curriculum for classes 3 to 9 from the next academic session, and that questions related to yoga will become mandatory in state government recruitment examinations.

Addressing a state-level International Yoga Day event in Panchkula, Saini said the move aims to encourage the physical, mental and emotional development of students while making yoga an important part of Haryana’s education and recruitment system.

“Yoga will be included in the curriculum for all classes from class 3 to 9 in the upcoming academic session,” Saini said.

He added that necessary amendments would be made in the examination policy to include yoga-related questions in exams conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission and the Haryana Public Service Commission.

The Chief Minister also announced that special training would be provided to physical training instructors and other teachers so that students across government schools can practice yoga regularly under proper guidance.

Saini said a state-level institute dedicated to naturopathy and yoga would be established in Morni, Panchkula district, where undergraduate courses in these fields would be offered.

He further announced that yoga will be recognized as a sports discipline in Haryana, with yogasanas to be included in the state’s sports policy. The Sports Departments of higher education institutions will also be renamed as “Departments of Sports and Yoga” to give yoga a wider role in academic institutions.

The Chief Minister said Ayurveda elements would also be incorporated into the yoga curriculum to promote a holistic approach towards health and wellness. He added that appointments to vacant posts of AYUSH yoga coaches and yoga instructors would be made soon.

Speaking at the International Yoga Day celebration in Panchkula, Saini said yoga should not be viewed solely as a form of exercise but as a scientific, time-tested way of life that contributes to overall well-being.

The event saw participation from youth from 16 countries who are studying and working in Haryana. Saini said their presence reflected the global acceptance of yoga and its ability to connect people beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.

He also highlighted that yoga has emerged as a global movement and encouraged people to make it a part of their daily lives.
