Manali, June 19
The Hans Foundation Hospitals successfully organised the Drishti Eye Care Mission and Multi Super Specialty Health Camp 2026 in the remote Zanskar Valley of Ladakh, extending essential healthcare services to residents living in one of the region’s most inaccessible areas.
The medical outreach programme provided comprehensive healthcare support through a 28-member team of doctors and technical experts who visited several villages across Zanskar. The camp offered eye examinations, specialist consultations, pathology testing, X-ray services, ECG screening, medicine distribution and cataract treatment.
According to organisers, a total of 550 eye examinations, 747 general health consultations, 582 pathology tests, 51 X-rays, and 77 ECG screenings were conducted during the camp. As part of the eye care initiative, 168 pairs of reading glasses were distributed, and 65 beneficiaries were identified for customized spectacles.
The medical team diagnosed 64 patients with cataracts, of whom 38 underwent successful cataract surgery. Follow-up treatment and support for the remaining patients will be provided in subsequent phases of the programme.
The initiative received support from MDSD Hospital, Rotary Eye Hospital Kullu, and Accord Hospital Faridabad. Local volunteers and students also played a significant role in registration, translation services, public awareness campaigns, and community coordination.
Social worker Tarun Vimal said The Hans Foundation regularly organizes such healthcare camps in Kullu district and other remote regions. He added that the Zanskar camp was part of the organisation’s ongoing effort to ensure quality healthcare reaches underserved communities in difficult terrain.
The camp is being seen as a significant step towards improving healthcare access in remote Himalayan regions, where specialist medical facilities remain limited.
