India’s Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has helped government agencies hire more than one million outsourced workers in the 2024-25 financial year, marking a major milestone in digital procurement. The platform, which hosts over 33,000 service providers, allows agencies to recruit workers for roles including security, horticulture, data entry, and facility management. GeM ensures compliance with labour laws while offering flexible hiring based on wages, skills, and qualifications.
GeM CEO Ajay Bhadoo described the achievement as a step towards greater transparency and efficiency in public procurement. “The platform has become a one-stop solution for government hiring, ensuring strict labour compliance,” he said. Since its launch in 2016, GeM has expanded from basic outsourcing services to a portfolio of more than 330 offerings, including drone operations, cybersecurity, and cloud services. Officials say the latest milestone highlights the growing reliance on digital procurement in government operations.
