Amritsar, July 9
A former sarpanch linked to the Shiromani Akali Dal was shot dead at close range outside his home in Punjab’s Amritsar district, in an attack police say was likely premeditated. Palwinder Singh, a prominent local figure in Saidpur village near Rajasansi, was fatally shot just after midnight by a man believed to be his neighbor. The attacker allegedly arrived in a car, knocked on Singh’s door, and fired three bullets into his chest as the former sarpanch stepped outside.
The chilling incident was captured in its entirety on a CCTV camera installed outside Singh’s residence. Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural), Maninder Singh, told the media that a murder case had been registered and multiple police teams were conducting raids to locate the suspect. “The accused had been staying with his in-laws, whose house is right next to the victim’s. We are investigating all possible motives, including personal enmity,” SSP said.
