Dharamshala, June 10
The Forest Department has launched an investigation into the massive forest fire that broke out in the Dhaloon forest area, affecting nearly 60 hectares of land and triggering a large-scale rescue operation. Officials have said strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident.
Chief Conservator of Forests, Dharamshala Circle, Vasu Kaushal, visited the affected area along with departmental officials, including the Divisional Forest Officer, to assess the damage and review the situation on the ground.
According to forest officials, preliminary investigations have identified one individual whose role is being examined. Authorities said a detailed inquiry is underway and appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is completed.
The fire reportedly started around 3:30 pm on Tuesday and spread rapidly through the forest. The situation became more challenging as a religious gathering was held nearby, drawing a large crowd to the area.
Officials said the intensity of the blaze forced authorities to undertake a major rescue operation late Tuesday night. Around 500 people were safely evacuated after 11:30 pm as firefighters and emergency teams worked to contain the flames and prevent further damage.
The Forest Department is continuing its assessment of the affected area while also investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities have appealed to the public to exercise caution in forest regions and cooperate with officials during the ongoing inquiry.
