New Delhi, September 19
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that farmers would start benefiting from lower GST rates on agricultural machinery from 22 September. Chouhan, who met representatives of leading farm machinery manufacturers in New Delhi, described farmers as the nation’s “grain providers” whose labour sustains India’s food security. “Reducing costs for farmers and making agriculture profitable is our topmost priority,” he said, adding that the government would ensure the GST cuts translate into real savings for cultivators. The minister also announced a nationwide awareness campaign to inform farmers about the revised GST structure and encourage them to take advantage of the decision.
