New Delhi, December 3
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha that fake news and AI-generated deepfakes pose a serious threat to India’s democratic framework, calling for stronger rules to curb misuse of social media platforms. Responding to a query during Question Hour on December 3, Vaishnaw said several online ecosystems had emerged that “do not want to follow the Constitution of India or the laws passed by Parliament”, adding that strict action was needed to counter them. He said the government had recently introduced new rules to address misinformation and strengthen oversight.
