At least eight women were killed in a stampede at the Shitala Mata temple in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Tuesday, police said.
The incident occurred in the morning amid a heavy rush of devotees at the temple, according to senior officials.
Bihar Sharif Assistant Superintendent of Police Noorul Haque said, “At least eight women died in the stampede this morning. Police personnel and district administration officials have reached the site, and rescue operations are underway.”
The exact cause of the stampede remains unclear, though authorities noted that a large crowd of devotees had gathered at the temple at the time of the tragedy.
