Punjab’s Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh inspected the temporary pumping station near Gaushala point of Buddha Dariya along with Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal on Thursday. The initiative, part of MP Seechewal’s ‘Kar Sewa’ mission, aims to pump untreated sewerage waste to the Jamalpur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) until a permanent Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) is built at the site.
The construction of the Gaushala IPS remains stalled due to an ongoing court case. Dr. Singh urged officials to accelerate efforts and issued directives to prevent the dumping of cow dung and industrial waste into the waterway. Plans for biogas plants at Haibowal and Tajpur Road dairy complexes were also discussed, with interim measures for managing cow dung already in place.
Dr. Singh reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment to cleaning the Buddha Dariya and praised the progress made under MP Seechewal’s initiative. He emphasized that treating waste at Jamalpur STP will significantly reduce pollution levels in the Dariya.
