Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday accused BJP MPs of assaulting him as he and other Congress MPs arrived at Parliament’s Makar Dwar. Kharge called for an inquiry into the incident in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, describing the act as an assault on the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and the Congress president. The incident occurred as MPs of the INDIA bloc were marching from the statue of Dr. Ambedkar to Makar Dwar to protest Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks. Kharge claimed that BJP MPs physically pushed him, causing him to lose balance and sit on the ground, resulting in knee injuries from a previous surgery. He was assisted by Congress MPs and made his way to the House later that morning.
