CM Sukhu inaugurates first robotic surgery unit in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has inaugurated the state’s first robotic surgery unit at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality (AIMS) in Chamiana, Shimla. A prostate cancer patient underwent surgery using the advanced system, with the procedure carried out by doctors from Max Hospital in the CM’s presence. Health Minister Dr Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh also attended the launch.

Sukhu said robotic surgery facilities would be extended to Tanda Medical College and other medical institutions. He stressed that providing world-class healthcare was a top priority, adding that the state would invest ₹3,000 crore in health services by 2030.

“This is the first time in Himachal’s history that an operation has been conducted with such advanced technology,” he said.

Separately, the CM praised the police for tracing three missing Bishop Cotton School students within 24 hours. He said the kidnapping investigation was ongoing and that he had personally monitored the case through constant updates from senior police officials. On political matters, Sukhu commented on the resignation of Congress Committee’s Foreign Affairs Chairman Anand Sharma, saying new people should be given opportunities — a view Sharma himself had supported.
