Abohar, July 7
In a shocking incident, a well-known cloth merchant and social worker, Sanjay Verma, was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified assailants in Abohar on Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened fire on Verma as he was stepping out of his car outside his shop. He died on the spot. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Police have launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. The incident has triggered panic and outrage among the local business community. Security has been tightened in the area.
