Shimla, June 1
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Monday said the proposed Chenab Beas tunnel project is of significant importance, as it would help divert surplus water from the Chenab river to the Beas basin and reduce water flow towards Pakistan.
Speaking to mediapersons after participating in the census self-enumeration drive in Shimla, the governor said the project would help meet the water requirements of northern states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
Gupta said the initiative was necessary and added that the government was committed to ensuring better utilization of water resources for the country’s benefit. Referring to Pakistan, he said it was important to take strong measures against activities that promote terrorism.
The governor also highlighted the importance of the ongoing census exercise and said the data collected would help the government formulate schemes for poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
He urged citizens to actively participate in the self enumeration process by providing accurate details through the online portal or mobile application.
The self enumeration process in Himachal Pradesh commenced on June 1 and will remain underway till June 15.
During this period, residents are required to enter details for all family members on the digital platform.
