An over 50-year-old commercial building in Chandigarh’s Sector 17, previously declared unsafe, collapsed early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., according to eyewitnesses, and caused significant damage to nearby structures. No casualties were reported, but the adjoining building, formerly home to the iconic Mehfil restaurant, suffered cracks and partial damage due to the collapse’s impact. This incident follows the December 21, 2024, collapse of a four-story building in Mohali’s Sohana area, which claimed two lives. Authorities are assessing the structural safety of neighboring properties in Sector 17 to prevent further incidents.
