Shimla, August 1
A section of the Chandigarh-Manali highway was washed away following a landslide near Pandoh in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, officials said on Friday, forcing the complete closure of the key route amid ongoing monsoon rains. The landslide, triggered by continuous rainfall since Wednesday night, caused major damage near Kainchi Mor, close to the Pandoh Dam, rendering the Mandi–Kullu National Highway impassable.
Emergency crews and disaster management teams have been deployed to the site to clear debris and restore connectivity, although district officials said the repair work may take considerable time. Heavy vehicles have been stopped at Nagchala and Jhiri, while light motor vehicles are being diverted through the Kamand–Katola alternate route.
Landslides during the monsoon season are common in the mountainous terrain of Himachal Pradesh, often leading to road closures and isolating remote areas.
