Chandigarh, September 12
Police are investigating a social media post attributed to US-based Khalistani gangster Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, claiming responsibility for a suspected hand-grenade explosion targeting retired superintendent of police Jaskirat Singh Chahal. The post suggests the attack was in retaliation for encounters during Punjab’s militancy decade, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police have announced a Rs 2 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of two suspects involved in the explosion, which occurred on Wednesday evening in Sector 10, damaging windows and flower pots at a residential property. One suspect has been arrested, and a massive search is underway for the remaining suspects.
The complainant reported seen two individuals near the residence who allegedly threw a grenade-like object. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Police Control Room at 0172-2749194, dial 112, or use the WhatsApp number 9465121000.
Sub Inspector Lakhwinder Singh confirmed that a three-wheeler linked to the incident has been recovered, and security measures are in place to protect the evidence. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CSFL) team will revisit the site for further analysis after an initial pause due to darkness. Singh also mentioned that possible connections to Chahal’s family will be explored.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
