The Punjab Police have launched an investigation after unidentified men in a Scorpio SUV opened fire on a parked Thar and then fled the scene. The incident has triggered concern among residents, who say such attacks raise questions over public safety. The owner of the Thar — identified as a local BJP worker — said he learnt about the shooting only later in the afternoon. CCTV footage captured a white Scorpio driving through the lane moments before multiple gunshots were heard. Police were alerted soon after.
According to officers, the attackers first fired at the vehicle’s window and then used swords to damage its bonnet. The Thar was parked outside the home of Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Phase 1, who said he initially assumed someone had thrown a stone at his car. On closer inspection, he found a bullet casing inside the vehicle, which police have since collected as evidence.
CCTV visuals show the white Scorpio on the spot before the gunfire. Residents say the ease with which the attackers struck in the middle of the night and escaped has heightened fear in the neighbourhood.
A police investigation officer said they had received information about the attack and were carrying out necessary action at the scene.
