The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, effective from January 1, 2025. The revision raises the existing DA and DR rate from 53 percent to 55 percent of basic pay or pension, aimed at off setting inflation. The move is expected to benefit approximately 48.66 lakh employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners, with an estimated financial impact of ₹6,614.04 crore annually on the exchequer.
