The Indian Army has deployed aviation units to aid flood relief operations in Punjab, carrying out daring rescues in worsening weather conditions. According to officials, Army Aviation helicopters have been flying continuous missions as part of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) efforts in flood-hit districts.
On 27 August, three Cheetah helicopters conducted multiple sorties in Lassian, Gurdaspur, where rising floodwaters endangered lives. The operation, carried out around 4 pm, led to the safe evacuation of 27 people. The Army said the rescue was undertaken in “extreme flying conditions” and praised the commitment of its crews. It added that its personnel remain on standby to assist civil authorities across Punjab.
“The Indian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety of citizens during this crisis — service before self,” an Army spokesperson said.
